The 17th Museum Night was marked by Vukovar museums in their own unique way on Friday night.

Museum Night is an event that began in 2005 with several Zagreb museums, and which in recent years has grown into the most important event of museums in Croatia.

Museum Night in eastern city was opened at the Vukovar City Museum on behalf of the City of Vukovar by the Head of the Administrative Department for Social Activities of the City of Vukovar, Josip Paloš.

The theme of this year’s Museum Night is “Museums between the real and the digital”, and the Vukovar City Museum marked the 17th Museum Night with the opening of an exhibition and presentation on the topic “19. meridian visiting the Vukovar City Museum” since the 19th meridian passes through Vukovar, ie exactly through the entrance to the Vukovar City Museum.

“Faced with the consequences of the pandemic, museums have prepared for a special way of working, which is to perform a large part of their activities in the presentation of cultural heritage digitally. The Vukovar City Museum used this night to present something that is real, but in a digital way. One of our nice ideas is to point out the fact that the 19th meridian in its vertical line passes through the Eltz Castle and the Vukovar City Museum,” said the director of the Vukovar City Museum Ružica Marić.

“The city of Vukovar is a city of rich cultural tradition and as such can boast of as many as 3 museums. I am glad that all our museums participate in the celebration of this beautiful event in a unique, virtual way, but we hope that soon again on Museum Night we will be able to open the door to all visitors and experience the culture of our city in the old way,” concluded Paloš.
