The 25th edition of the International Lace Festival will take place from 10-12 September in the northern Croatian town of Lepoglava.

Lace works from Croatia and 11 other countries will be showcased during the festival with the partner country this year Hungary.

The concept of this year’s exhibition is conceived as a cross-section of 25 years of the lace festival in Lepoglava and will be a joint central exhibition of participants of past festivals and hosts.

In addition to exhibitions in the premises of the Pauline Monastery, where the joint exhibition will be presented individually by foreign guests, at the House of Culture visitors will be able to see the richness of Croatian lace from lace centres, children’s works on lace from kindergartens and primary schools in Lepoglava, Lepoglava lace in the Lace gallery and the exhibition of the Association Ecomuseum Lepoglava.

Lace-making in Croatia is a tradition dating back to the Renaissance when lace making began spreading throughout the Mediterranean and continental Europe. Throughout the years, Croatian lace has become notable for its unique patterns and designs. In 2009 UNESCO recognised lace-making in Croatia as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
