6 October 2019 – Three breathtaking photos shot in Croatia have been selected for the special 70th edition of the World Meteorological Organization’s (WMO) calendar.

The WMO celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2020 and once again they organised a calendar competition, inviting photographers from all over the world to submit their entries.

Looking for high-quality and artistic photographs of the amazing beauty and power of the weather and the environment, more than 1,100 entries were received.

WMO this week announced the winning photos for the 2020 calendar.

“Following the public voting on the 75 shortlisted photographs, a WMO jury of meteorologists and photographers selected 14 photos for the printed calendar (one per month, plus covers). The final selection was based on votes, photographic merit, meteorological interest and relevance to the theme of the 2020 World Meteorological Day, Climate and Water. The jury also took into account geographical and regional balance in accordance with WMO’s stature as a United Nations organization. The final selection was extremely difficult because of the outstanding quality of many of the 1,100 photographs which were submitted,” WMO said.

The three photos from Croatia which were selected were – “Gone with the Bura”, shot in Ražanac by Aleksandar Gospić, “Two Rainbows“ by Miroslave Novak, shot in Pribislavec in Međimurje and “Sunset Lenticular Clouds“ by Danijel Palčić, shot on Pag.
