Croatia’s No.1 Marin Cilic has charged into the last 16 at the 2018 French Open with a convincing win over American Steve Johnson on Saturday.

The in-form Croatian only let Johnson take nine games in the whole match, winning in straight sets in just over an hour an a half 6-2, 6-3, 6-4.

Cilic smashed down nine aces in the match and made 19 unforced errors, which is almost three times less than he made in his second round match. Cilic was particularly strong at the net, winning more than 90% of points when he came to the net.

Cilic meets 18th seed Fabio Fognini from Italy in the quarter-final.

Cilic’s is Croatia’s remaining hope in the singles draw after 21-year-old Borna Coric was knocked out on Saturday by 11th seed Diego Schwartzman from Argentina.
