An Australian-Croat has been honoured in Australia for his courage after saving a young persons life. Ivica Glavas, who is from the city of Melbourne, was the recipient of The Australian Security Medal of Valour, an award given to recognise acts of valour, courage and decisiveness.
Glavas went beyond ‘the call of duty’ when he prevented the suicide of an emotionally disturbed person and was awarded the medal during a ceremony in Sydney earlier this month. After noticing a car with a hose running from its exhaust, Glavas immediately intervened, smashing the car window to rescue the man inside who was attempting to take his own life. Only a maximum of ten people receive the award annually in Australia. Well done, Ivica.
I’m very proud to say Ivica Glavas is my brother in law.. But more than anything he’s the closest thing I have to a brother knowing him since I was young.. This is not the first heroic act… As a young Croatian-Australian, he left Australia to join the fight for Croatia’s freedom and became part of the HV.. We love you all very much and you truly deserve all the happiness in the world…
Svaka cast!! Bravo Ivica.
