Croatian Rivalry Put Aside in the Name of Charity on Rugby Field

CroatiaA lot is made of the sporting rivalry in Croatia between the North and the South of the country, with the Hajduk Split/Dinamo Zagreb football derby probably demonstrating that the best.

On Saturday afternoon though Rugby players from Croatia’s North and South got to together in the name of charity. The North v South fundraising match was played at Zagreb’s Kranjčevićeva stadium in bright sunshine to help raise awareness and funds for the campaign to stop violence against women. The 10 kuna gate fee went to support the cause.

The match, which saw the North selection run out winners, also served as a trial match for the Croatian national team selectors who would name the Croatia squad for their upcoming matches against Switzerland in Split (2.11) and Malta way (9.11) after the match.
