One of Zagreb’s most popular street food spots is preparing for a new chapter. Saralee’s Thai Street Food, a well-known kiosk in the city centre, will close its current location at the end of April after five successful years.
Owner and Thai chef Saralee Madnui confirmed that the final day of operation at Trg Drage Iblera will be 30 April. However, the closure is only temporary, with plans already underway to reopen at a new address in the heart of Zagreb.
Since opening, the kiosk quickly became a go-to destination for authentic Thai cuisine in the Croatian capital. Known for generous portions, affordable prices and consistently high-quality dishes, it attracted a wide range of customers, from office workers in nearby businesses to shoppers visiting Importanne Galleria.
Chef Saralee, who also previously operated Khaos Thai, built a strong reputation for serving some of the most authentic Thai food in Zagreb. Long queues during peak lunch hours became a common sight.
The menu features a wide variety of traditional Thai dishes, including soups, spring rolls, green and massaman curries, wok dishes, pad Thai, tom yum, fried rice and stir-fries. The quality of the food has also been recognised internationally, earning a recommendation from the Gault&Millau guide.
While the kiosk at Ibler Square prepares to close, customers can still enjoy the same flavours at the second location in Ulica Crvenog križa 31, which has been operating successfully for the past four years.
Madnui thanked customers for their support over the past five years, describing the journey as “wonderful” and confirming that more details about the new location will be shared soon.
The kiosk’s closure marks the end of an era for one of Zagreb’s most frequented street food spots. With its prime, high-traffic location, many will be watching to see how the space at Ibler Square will be used next.
