ZAGREB, 28 September 2026 – A strike by workers at Zagreb’s public transport operator ZET and waste management company Čistoća began at 3:30am on Monday, with most tram and bus services suspended across the Croatian capital.
According to the latest information from the City of Zagreb, the majority of ZET drivers have joined the strike. However, some drivers have continued working.
At present, one tram is operating on tram line 17 and another on line 11, while one bus is operating on route 330. The Zagreb Funicular is also running normally.
Other ZET services, including the service department, emergency teams, mechanics and the traffic control centre, remain operational.
The strike is also affecting waste collection in the city.
At Čistoća, 11 waste collection trucks have gone out, involving 33 municipal workers and drivers. Unions had earlier announced that 20 trucks would operate.
The available vehicles have been directed towards hospitals, kindergartens and healthcare institutions.
There is currently no household waste collection, while Zagreb’s recycling centres are closed.
Parking services have been less affected. Zagrebparking’s scan-a-car vehicles are continuing to monitor parking payment, all available tow trucks are operating and public car parks remain open.
The disruption has also affected road traffic. The City of Zagreb said there were currently around 15% more cars on the roads than at the same time last Monday, as commuters adjust to the reduced public transport services.
The strike involves workers from Zagreb Holding and its subsidiaries, including ZET and Čistoća.
The situation is developing, with the level of public transport and waste collection services expected to depend on how many workers continue to participate in the strike.
