Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević recently made a special birthday wish come true for one of the city’s oldest residents. Ivka Brčić.

Ivka, who turned 106, had one simple request—to meet the mayor.

In coordination with her daughter, the City of Zagreb organised a surprise visit, inviting Ivka to City Hall, where she was personally greeted by Tomašević.

Born in 1919, Ivka has lived through an incredible 30 different Zagreb mayors.

“I am happy that we could make Ivka’s day extra special. It’s not every day that you get a visit from someone who has lived for over a century,” said Tomašević.

“A new home for the elderly has been built, with three more in the planning stages. We have ensured free public transport for those over 65, and despite inflation, the costs of care homes have remained unchanged throughout my term. Additionally, the number of pensioners eligible for city financial assistance has tripled,” he stated.
