Zagreb’s new Kranjčevićeva stadium takes shape as completion nears

ZAGREB, 31 July 2026 – Construction of Zagreb’s new Kranjčevićeva Stadium continues to gather pace, with the project steadily taking the shape of a modern football arena ahead of its expected opening in early 2027.
The new stadium, which represents a €48 million investment, will have a capacity of 11,163 seats and will be fully covered.
Once completed, it will meet UEFA Category 4 standards, making it suitable for hosting top level European club and international football matches.
The playing surface will measure the standard 105 by 68 metres.

Significant progress has already been made across the site. On the north stand, reinforced concrete works, the steel structure and roof have been completed, while installation of the ceiling structure is now underway.
The east stand has also been completed, with stadium lighting already installed. On the south stand, preparations are in progress for roof installation.

Meanwhile, work continues on the west side, where a completely new building is being constructed. Structural works and interior fitting are advancing according to schedule.
The Kranjčevićeva redevelopment forms part of the City of Zagreb’s largest investment programme in sports infrastructure since the 1987 Summer Universiade.

The city is also working with the Croatian Government on an architectural and urban planning competition for the future Maksimir Stadium.
