Zagreb offers free entry to pools, museums, galleries during heatwave

ZAGREB, 26 June 2026 – As high temperatures continue to affect Croatia, the City of Zagreb has announced a range of measures to help residents stay cool, including free access to all city swimming pools and selected air-conditioned cultural institutions throughout the weekend.

The initiative is aimed at providing more places where people can escape the heat and spend time in comfortable, climate-controlled surroundings.

Mayor Tomislav Tomašević said the city wanted to ensure residents had as many opportunities as possible to cool down during the heatwave. He also encouraged people to follow public health advice on staying safe in extreme temperatures.

Visitors will be able to enter several museums and galleries free of charge over the weekend, including the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Archaeological Museum, the Ethnographic Museum, the Croatian Natural History Museum and the Croatian School Museum’s “Školica za pet” gallery space.

Free admission will also be available at the Zagreb City Museum, where parts of the building are air-conditioned.

Residents can also make use of Zagreb’s network of 42 public libraries located across the city. Most library branches are air-conditioned and provide comfortable spaces for reading, studying and participating in summer programmes.

In addition, all city-operated swimming pools will be open free of charge during their regular opening hours throughout the weekend.

The city also reminded residents that Zagreb has 197 public drinking fountains located across the capital, offering easy access to drinking water during the hot weather.

City authorities are encouraging residents to take advantage of these free facilities and continue following health recommendations issued by the Croatian Institute of Public Health during the period of extreme heat.
