Zadar records surge in tourists this spring

The city of Zadar has kicked off its tourist pre-season with encouraging figures, showing a marked increase in both arrivals and overnight stays in the first days of April.

According to the Zadar Tourist Board, last week saw an 18% rise in arrivals compared to the same period last year – a growth matched by the number of overnight stays.

“We noticed increased interest from the very beginning of April, and these numbers confirm that our investments in promotion and high-quality pre-season programming have delivered tangible results,” said Iva Bencun, Director of the Zadar Tourist Board.

A key contributor to this growth was the popular Tuna, Sushi & Wine Festival, which once again drew a large number of culinary and wine enthusiasts.

Alongside the festival’s attractions, visitors enjoyed the mild Mediterranean climate, Zadar’s rich cultural heritage, and a growing range of quality accommodation options.

The upcoming pre-season period also promises an exciting calendar of events, most notably the global Wings for Life World Run set for early May – an event that continues to draw international attention and participation.

While domestic tourists still make up a significant portion of total arrivals, there has been a noticeable increase in independent travellers and small groups drawn to Zadar by its events, gastronomy, and authentic atmosphere.

Last week, the largest number of visitors came from Poland, Germany, Austria, and the United Kingdom.

Despite various challenges, the tourism sector is looking ahead to the rest of the spring season with optimism.

Local hospitality providers, private renters, and hoteliers are already preparing for the upcoming Easter holidays and May bank holidays, when the next wave of visitors is expected.

Zadar is not only opening the tourist season on a high note – it’s also reaffirming its status as one of the most desirable destinations on the Adriatic.

And this appeal is no longer confined to the summer months, as more and more travellers are discovering the city’s charm in the quieter shoulder season – even with a slightly reduced number of flights to Zadar Airport compared to the same period last year.
