ZAGREB, 2 July (Hina) – The Fjaka Museum, the first in the world dedicated to exploring this abstract and elusive Dalmatian state of relaxation, officially opened on 1 July with the launch of its first exhibitions in the “What Is Fjaka?” virtual gallery.
Art is used in this museum as a medium to convey the rhythm, spirit and stillness of fjaka through a globally accessible digital platform, open to anyone wishing to understand and experience this unique philosophy of life.
Through five thematically interdisciplinary exhibitions, the Museum aims to evoke and portray fjaka as a “precious cultural and heritage treasure, deeply rooted in the tradition of the Dalmatian way of life.”
“By combining contemporary art with a scientific approach, the Fjaka Museum captures the essence of fjaka and promotes a culture of relaxation and a simple way of living,” the announcement of the opening says.
Lana Rogošić Blagojević, the founder of the Museum, began researching fjaka as a cultural and sociological concept specific to the Dalmatian region several years ago.
In 2023, she established the organisation Fjaka Museum – Institute for the Cultural and Scientific Study of Fjaka, whose main project is the platform muzejfjake.hr.
“With this platform, using art and science, we aim to affirm fjaka as an important element of Dalmatia’s intangible cultural heritage and to highlight the positive aspects of this state of being. In doing so, fjaka transcends the region it originates from and invites a change in life’s tempo, a reevaluation of personal values and a reinterpretation of the everyday,” she said.

In addition to the gallery, the Museum also features the Slow Living Magazine, a digital space where visitors can “literally immerse themselves in fjaka through seascapes, storytelling and ambient scenes.”
