Wimbledon 2019: Petra Martic through to the 4th round

LONDON, 5 July 2019 – Croatia’s Petra Martic has equalled her best performance at Wimbledon by reaching the last 16 on Friday. 

Martic (28) won a tough three-set battle at the All England Club this afternoon against American Danielle Rose Collins, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in just under 2 hours to advance through to the 4th round.  

The 24th-seed Croatian started aggressivley and dominated Collins, especially on her opponents second serve. After an early break, Martic was in control of the set. 

Collins turned the tables in the second set by lowering her unforced errors and after breaking Martic in the sixth game she would go on to take the set level the match at 1-1. 

In the final set, a break in the tenth game came for Martic when was leading 5-4 was enough to give her the match after Collins would hit a return wide. 

Martic, whose also reached the 4th round in 2017, will face 8th seed Elina Svitolina from the Ukraine in the 4th round. It has been a great year for the Croatian. After winning her first WTA title in Turkey, she reached the quarterfinal of the French Open.
