Leading meteorological platform Severe Weather has published its latest long-range summer forecast for Europe, including insights into what Croatia can expect during the upcoming months.
The projections point to a dynamic season ahead, shaped by varying pressure systems and shifting temperature patterns.
The end of May will see a significant drop in pressure over Europe, bringing widespread instability and a potential for unsettled conditions.
While this pattern may result in cooler-than-average temperatures and increased rainfall across central and northern Europe, Croatia might remain somewhat shielded under areas of high pressure extending across parts of the south.
As June arrives, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) model shows a stabilisation, with high pressure building over the North Atlantic and parts of southern Europe.
Croatia could experience warmer and drier conditions, particularly in southern and coastal regions, while northern and central parts may still feel some lingering instability.
The trend of above-average temperatures is expected to intensify during July, August, and even into September.
High pressure systems over central Europe and the North Atlantic are likely to dominate, increasing the potential for heatwaves, especially in continental Croatia and along the Dalmatian coast.
Rainfall during this period is projected to remain below average in many areas, although occasional summer storms are still possible, particularly when low-pressure systems dip further south.
Models from UKMO and the Canadian CANSIPS also suggest that much of Europe, including Croatia, will experience a warmer-than-usual summer. Rainfall is expected to be reduced, especially in the south, while heavier precipitation may affect northern and north-western Europe.
While these long-term forecasts provide valuable insight, meteorologists caution that they are based on evolving models and can shift as global atmospheric patterns change.
Nonetheless, if you are in, or coming to visit Croatia, you should prepare for a generally hot and dry summer ahead, with increasing potential for heatwaves from July onwards.
