Direct train from Poland to Croatia returns with new Slovenia connection

Poland-Croatia train

Croatia’s coastline will once again be easier to reach for Polish visitors this summer, as the seasonal direct train linking Warsaw and Rijeka returns with several improvements.

The service, first introduced last summer following years of planning, is set to resume on 26 June 2026.

Ticket sales are expected to open on 5 May, with early promotional fares likely to be snapped up quickly, as seen in previous seasons.

Passengers can expect a shorter journey time of around 18 hours, making rail travel to the Adriatic more convenient than before. The service will also run more frequently, increasing from four to six departures per week.

Expanded route through Slovenia

A notable enhancement this year is the extension of the route through Slovenia. Upon arrival in Ljubljana, the train will divide into two sections: One continuing towards Rijeka on Croatia’s Kvarner coast, and the other heading to Koper in Slovenia.

Travellers will also have the option of purchasing a combined ticket that includes a train journey to Ljubljana followed by a dedicated bus transfer to Trieste in Italy.

Passengers can choose between standard second-class seating or sleeping compartments, with bedding included in the fare for overnight journeys.

The train will be operated by PKP Intercity and hauled by a Siemens Vectron locomotive featuring distinctive marine-themed design.

Poland continues to rank among Croatia’s most significant tourism markets. Croatia consistently features among the top five holiday destinations for Polish tourists, alongside Italy, Greece and Spain.
