PHOTOS: Vrgorac hosts Croatia’s largest certified Pršut and Wine Festival

VRGORAC, 6 June 2026 – The town of Vrgorac has once again become a centre of Croatian gastronomy and wine culture as it hosts the ninth edition of the Dalmatian Pršut and Wine Days.

More than 50 exhibitors have gathered for the event, which is dedicated to showcasing certified pršut products, local wines and traditional agricultural products.

Held in the shade of Vrgorac’s historic town park, the festival has attracted large numbers of visitors eager to sample some of Croatia’s most celebrated flavours.

The event is the only fair in Croatia devoted exclusively to certified prosciutto products. Alongside the protected Dalmatian Pršut, visitors can also taste Drniš Pršut and Istrian Pršut, as well as internationally renowned specialities such as Italy’s Parma prosciutto and Slovenia’s Karst prosciutto.

Organisers say Vrgorac is a natural host for the festival due to its leading role in pršut production and its position as one of Croatia’s most important wine-growing regions.

Particular interest has been shown in indigenous grape varieties from the area, including Zlatarica Vrgorska, Trnak and Plavka.

Darko Markotić, President of the Croatian Pršut Cluster and a board member of Braća Pivac Meat Industry, said the event has become a central gathering for Dalmatian Pršut producers.

He noted that one of the festival’s key aims is to introduce consumers to European quality standards and premium products.

Support for domestic producers was also highlighted by Željka Gudelj Velaga, representative of Croatia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture.

She emphasised that Dalmatian Pršut is one of 52 Croatian products protected by a European Union geographical indication designation.

She also announced new financial support measures designed to help local producers invest in modernisation and innovation.

Vrgorac Mayor Mile Herceg thanked visitors, exhibitors and partners for their continued support of the event. He said preparations are already under way for next year’s tenth anniversary edition, which is expected to feature an expanded programme.

Željka Opačak, Director of the Vrgorac Tourist Board, said the festival has become a showcase for the work of local families and producers.

She pointed to the growing reputation of the Vrgorac wine region, known for its extensive vineyards, improving wine quality and expanding tourism infrastructure, including cycling routes and modern tasting facilities.

The festival continues throughout the weekend with exhibitions, presentations and traditional pršut slicing competitions.

Visitors will also enjoy a concert by Croatian singer Petar Grašo.
