Volosko, in Croatia’s Kvarner Gulf, has been selected among the most beautiful “hidden gems” in Europe by European Best Destinations.

The portal has compiled its list of Europe’s best hidden gems for 2021. Hidden islands in Portugal, locations in Spain and on  the French Riviera are included with the Croatian destination near Opatija.

“The very heart of the sea beats in this fishing village on the Kvarner Gulf.  You guessed it, Volosko is a must-see destination for its delicious, ultra-fresh fish and seafood restaurants. You will very much enjoy the welcome and authenticity as you take a stroll along the alleys of Volosko, discovering artists’ studios, art galleries, and being enchanted by the performances of “Klapa” vocal groups or jazz and other cultural and artistic performances,” EBD writes.

Tourists are recommended to walk along the Lungomare Seaside promenade which joins Volosko in Opatija and greet the Maiden with the Seagull.

Two Croatian spots have been included on the list of the 16 most romantic places in Europe

Suzi Petričić from the Opatija Tourist Board says that the recognition is important for Volosko.

“We expect that this selection will increase the interest in Volosko among visitors to Opatija and its surroundings, but also be an independent motive for coming to our destination. We will continue to brand Volosko as a unique tourist place with a top gastronomic offer, artistic “longer” and a special atmosphere. This was the goal of the successfully implemented European project “Feel & Taste” which promoted the Opatija hinterland and Volosko as a new tourist product with an emphasis on indigenous local ingredients and culinary tradition, cultural creativity and a special experience that Volosko offers its visitors,” Petričić said.
