Croatia’s hero in their shock win over European basketball champions Spain last night at the Olympics says he felt like he scored the winning basket after making a dramatic last second block…
With time virtually up on the clock and Croatia leading by two points, Philadelphia 76-ers star Dario Šarić came up with a match-winning block from a Gasol shot to give Croatia an amazing come from behind 72:70 win over Spain early this morning.
“I saw that the ball was not going to go to Mirotić but to Gasol so I timed my jump a bit earlier and got it. It felt like I scored a basket in the last second for the win,” Šarić explained.
Croatia trailed throughout the match, and at one stage by 14 points, but never gave up the fight.
“We fought even though the gap was big at times, only teams who believe in themselves can do that,” he added.
Croatia’s other hero on the night was Nets wing Bojan Bogdanović, who scored 23 points. Croatia face Argentina in their next match on Wednesday.
