Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic has dedicated his side’s dramatic victory over Denmark in the Round of 16 at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia to Croatian fans all over the world.
When Ivan Rakitic sent Kasper Schmeichel the wrong way with the final penalty to send Croatia into the last 8, Croatian fans all around the world went crazy.
Scenes in Croatia were reminiscent of 1998 as flares, songs, drink and tears of joy flowed. On the coast, fans jumped into the sea as the party got started.
“Incredible. The last 10 minutes of the match I lost 10 years of my life but in the end, we are through to the quarterfinal. We will party all night,” said of the thousands of fans which gather on Zagreb’s main square to watch the match.
“Amazing! This is like 1998 – everyone is so happy and proud. When Luka Modric had his penalty saved with five minutes remaining the crowd got behind him chanting his name, the atmosphere was so good,” another stated.
