NEW YORK, 29 August 2019 – Petra Martic has advanced through to the third round at the US Open in New York on Thursday.

Croatia highest-ranked women’s player, and the tournament’s 22nd seed, beat Romanian Ana Bogdan in the second round at Flushing Meadows today, 6-2, 6-4.

This is the first time that Martic has reached the third round at the US Open. The 28-year-old has had a good year, reaching the last 16 at Wimbledon and the quarter-finals at the French Open. She will meet Anastasija Sevastova in the 3rd round.

Meanwhile, 12th seed Borna Coric was forced to retire from his second round match yesterday against Grigor Dimitrov. Coric was ruled out before the match with back troubles. The same injury forced the Croatian to miss this year’s Wimbledon.

Croatia’s other remaining hopes in the singles, Marin Cilic and Donna Vekic, will both be in action later.
