Croatia’s Borna Ćorić has reached his first-ever Grand Slam quarterfinal after he beat Australia’s Jordan Thompson on Sunday night in Louis Armstrong Stadium.
The Croatian, who is the 27th seed, made light work of his fourth round match, winning in straight sets 7-5, 6-1, 6-3. It was easier than his third round clash against No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas when he saved six match points to win a five-set thriller.
Next up for Ćorić, who is the only Croatian remaining in the singles, is No. 5 Alexander Zverev.
With Novak Djoković out after being disqualified for hitting a linesperson, and Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer not playing, the draw is wide open.
The 23-year-old Croatian’s previous best performance at a Grand Slam was a fourth round finish at the 2019 Australian Open.
