SPLIT, 28 March 2026 – The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford has arrived in the Croatian coastal city of Split for a scheduled port visit and maintenance stop.
The visit marks another step in the long-standing defence partnership between the United States and Croatia, both allies within NATO, the U.S. Embassy in Zagreb said.
During its stay in Split, the carrier will host local officials and key leaders in recognition of the enduring alliance between the two countries.
The visit also provides an opportunity to reaffirm shared security interests and cooperation in the region.
U.S. Navy units regularly visit Croatia for maintenance, joint training exercises and shore leave, reflecting the close military relationship between the two nations. Sailors from the Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group are continuing this tradition during their time in Split, the U.S. Embassy in Zagreb added.

Its return highlights the continued cooperation between the United States and Croatia and underscores Croatia’s role as a valued NATO ally and strategic partner, the U.S. Embassy in Zagreb said.
“This visit offers crews an important opportunity to enjoy Croatia’s rich culture and natural beauty, and it provides the United States with another occasion to engage with a vital ally and further strengthen the U.S.-Croatia relationship, which is rooted in shared values and common security interests,” the U.S. Embassy in Zagreb said in its statement.
The USS Gerald R. Ford is the lead ship of the U.S. Navy’s newest class of aircraft carriers and one of the most advanced warships in the world.
