Underwater tunnels may soon be connecting Croatian islands in the Zadar archipelago after representatives from the Croatian-German Society and Civil Engineer Bozenko Jelic presented its project to the public, reports HRT.
Jelic proposes to connect the central Dalmatian city of Zadar with the island of Ugljan via a 4.9 kilometer underwater tunnel. Future plans are also to connect Zadar with the nearby islands of Iz, Dugi Otok, Molat, Ist, Sestrunj and Rivanj.
Zadar’s Mayor Stipe Zrilic says that the project is of special interest for the islands and for all of Croatia and says that they are looking into the how the project fits into the counties regional plan. The project could also be a candidate for EU funding
