UEFA confirms 2 Croatian clubs in Champions League qualifying in 2020/21

13 September 2019 – UEFA has confirmed the list of clubs on Thursday who will take part in European competitions in the 2020/21 season. 

There was good news for Croatian football with UEFA confirming that there will be two Croatian clubs taking part in UEFA Champions league qualifying next season. 

Next season, Croatia will have five clubs taking part in total in European competitions as three clubs will be involved in the Europa League. 

The champions of the Croatian league will join the UEFA Champions League qualifying in the second round in the ‘champions path’. The club which finishes second in the Croatian first division will also join Champions League qualifying in the second round in the ‘league path, together with runners-up in Turkey, the Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic and Greece. 

The second qualifying round of the Champions League will be played on 21-22 July and 28-29 July. 

There will be changes for Croatian clubs in next season’s Europa League. The 4th placed club in the Croatian first division will no longer join the competition in the first qualifying round but will join in the second round together with the 3rd placed club in the Croatian league. 

The winner of the Croatian Cup will join Europa League qualifying in the third round. The second qualifying round of the Europa League will be played on 23-30 July, whilst the third round will be played on 6 and 13 August. 

Dinamo Zagreb are the sole Croatian club still in European competitions this season. Next week they kick-off their UEFA Champions League campaign at home against Atalanta.
