Tourism In Croatia: More Coming But Less Spending

According to the State Department for Statistics, 2012 was the most successful year for tourist arrivals in the last decade. After a stagnation period between 2007 and 2010 when the global financial crisis first began to take effect, tourism in Croatia has again seen marked growth. In 2012 there were 62.7 million overnight stays, 4% more than in 2011.

Although arrivals and overnight stays are up, what tourists are spending when they get to Croatia had gradually dropped over the last few years. From January to September in 2008, when Croatia had 54.7 million overnight stays, the average spend per person was 124 euro per a day. In the same period in 2012, when there was over 60 million overnight stays, the average spend was 104 euros a day.
