Top Croatian language students honoured in Australia

On 24 March 2026, the Association of Croatian Language Teachers in Victoria held its annual Top Scorers Ceremony at the Croatian Consulate General in Melbourne, Australia, recognising excellence in VCE Croatian for 2025.
The event brought together students, families, teachers, and members of the Croatian community to celebrate academic achievement and the ongoing preservation of Croatian language and cultural heritage.
This year’s top students, Valentina Ljutic (Mentone VSL Centre) and Irina Sever (Keilor Downs Centre), were honoured for their outstanding results and dedication to learning Croatian.
Each recipient received an “Arthur Nalis” plaque, a bilingual cookbook My Mother’s Kitchen, a Certificate of Excellence, and a $150 voucher.

Guests were warmly welcomed in Croatian by the president of the Association Katica Perinac.
“Dobrodošli na svečanost nagrađivanja najboljih učenika. Ovu svečanost organizira Udruga učitelja hrvatskoga jezika u Viktoriji. Udruga je volonterska organizacija koja nastoji nagraditi učenike koji uče hrvatski jezik i njeguju svoju kulturnu baštinu.”

The ceremony highlighted the Association’s ongoing commitment to supporting Croatian language education through initiatives such as poetry and writing competitions and graduation ceremonies for VCE students. The awards were presented to the students by the Consul General, Joseph Gene Petrić.
The President thanked parents and teachers for their commitment in preserving Croatian Language and the wider community for their continued support.
The warmest congratulations was given to the two students who achieved an outstanding result at the VCE Croatian.

The event concluded with heartfelt congratulations to all award recipients, celebrating not only their academic success but also their important role in sustaining Croatian language and cultural identity within the Victorian community.
