Title Contenders Start With Big Wins

There were big wins over the weekend for the three favourites for the 2013/2014 Croatian first division football title as the new season kicked off in Croatia.

Last year’s champions Dinamo Zagreb had no problem at home on Friday night disposing Osijek 3:1, whilst their coastal rivals Hajduk Split looked in ominous form as they thumped fellow Dalmatian side Zadar 5-1. Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk Split’s biggest challenge this season for the title is expected to come from Rijeka and RNK Split. Rijeka opened their account with a comfortable 3:0 win over Istra 1961. RNK Split play Slaven Belupo on Sunday.
