Thousands of new trees being planted in largest ever volunteer reforestation action in Croatia

The largest voluntary reforestation of burnt areas ever organised in Croatia has started.
On Saturday more than 350 volunteers planted around 3,000 new trees on Mosor, a mountain range located near the city of Split which was devastated during massive wildfires last summer.
One of the aims of the voluntary action titled ‘Boranka’ is the restoration of forest areas on Mosor. Boranka will take place for two months this year until the end of November, which is the best time to plant trees.

Over the next two months, tens of thousands of new trees will be planted in Dalmatia, including black and coastal pine, pine, oak, and other species.
The Croatian Scout Association, Croatian Greenpeace, and children from elementary and high schools are taking part in Boranka.
As part of Boranka, 100,000 crayons were made from trees burnt down during the wildfires and distributed among citizens who can join the action by drawing a tree with these crayons, naming it, and placing it in a virtual forest through the application www.boranka.hr
