ZAGREB, 27 June 2025 – The City of Zagreb is preparing for the largest ticketed concert in the world, with around 500,000 people expected to attend the Marko Perković Thompson concert at the Zagreb Hippodrome on Saturday, 5 July.

In anticipation of the massive turnout, city authorities have announced a series of special traffic and safety measures to help manage the crowd and minimise disruption to surrounding neighbourhoods.

Three-Phase Traffic Management Plan

At a press conference today, Andro Pavuna, head of Zagreb’s Office for Local Self-Government, Traffic, Civil Protection, and Safety, outlined a three-phase traffic control strategy to be implemented around the event.

Phase 1 – Red Zone (Begins Late Friday Evening)

From late Friday night, the immediate area surrounding the Hippodrome will be closed to all traffic, including for parking. This measure is aimed at preventing illegal parking in nearby neighbourhoods and will remain in place until Sunday morning, once the majority of attendees have dispersed.

Residents are strongly advised to avoid entering this area by private vehicle.

Phase 2 – Blue Zone (Activated Saturday Afternoon)

As foot traffic intensifies on Saturday afternoon, a wider area around the venue will be closed off. Avenija Dubrovnik will be shut to car traffic, though trams will operate where possible, and bus routes will be adapted.

The city urges all concertgoers to walk if they can, as public transport will likely be unable to accommodate the sheer volume of passengers. Tram use should be prioritised for the elderly and those with limited mobility.

Phase 3 – Yellow Zone (Contingency)

This phase covers the motorway exit routes into the city and will be enacted only if absolutely necessary. It is a contingency plan designed to prevent traffic gridlock and ensure smooth vehicle movement in the broader city area.

Public Transport and Road Closures

Starting from late Friday, the ZET terminal at Glavni kolodvor (Main Station) will be closed.

On Saturday morning, Vukovarska Street will also close between Miramarska and Kruge, with tram services along this stretch suspended.

Držićeva Street will remain open where possible. However, if large pedestrian flows are observed across Most Mladosti (Bridge of Youth), temporary closure may be implemented for safety reasons.

The Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) has warned of increased traffic both on the motorways and throughout the city, particularly on the night of 5–6 July, as concertgoers return home.

Travellers are advised to avoid the Zagreb area during this time if possible.

Health and Safety Guidelines for Concertgoers

The Croatian Institute of Public Health (HZJZ) has issued health and safety recommendations for those attending the concert. Visitors are advised to:

• Stay hydrated and bring sufficient water

• Wear light clothing suitable for warm weather

• Use sun protection and avoid prolonged exposure

• Avoid alcohol consumption

• Take any prescribed medication as normal and carry it with you

• Refrain from travelling if feeling unwell

HZJZ also strongly encourages the use of the official “MPT” mobile app, which provides:

• Health and safety notifications

• An interactive venue map

• Locations of medical aid stations

• Real-time updates from public services
