Last month sources close to Ohio Governor John Kasich said he was “virtually certain” to run for the Republican nomination for President. If sources are correct, and Kasich manages to win in 2016, he will become the first ever to President of the United States of America with Croatian ancestry…
Kasich, who has had a 37-year career in American politics, was born in Pennsylvania. His father was of Czech origin, whilst his mother was the child of Croatian immigrants.
“That is right, our mum was from Croatia and father was from the Czech Republic,” John’s sister Donna told daily Vecernji list, adding that her mother Anna Vukovich, was born in Pittsburgh in 1919.
John, who calls himself an American-Croat, has been in office as the 69th Governor of Ohio since 2011. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as a member of the United States House of Representatives, representing Ohio’s 12th congressional district from 1983 to 2001.He was a commentator on Fox News Channel, and has also worked as an investment banker.
Kasich gave a hint at his likely candidacy for president on US television show “Meet the Press” on Sunday.
“I love my country and if I can step up and help it, I intend to do it.” he said, adding that he thinks he has the ‘best CV in the field’.
The United States presidential election of 2016 is expected to be held on 8 November 2016.
