ZAGREB, 25 January (Hina) – President of the Croatian Olympic Committee (HOO) Zlatko Mateša on Monday received the Hungarian Ambassador to Croatia, Csaba Demcsák, for the talks on upgrading bilateral cooperation in sport.

During the one-hour friendly talks, the interlocutors exchanged a  lot of useful information. Ambassador Demcsák, who is a big promoter of sports, proposed some concrete activities aimed at strengthening cooperation in sports between the two countries.

One suggestion is to organise an exhibition of Croatian sports in the Hungarian Cultural Institute with renowned athletes participating in it. Another proposal by the diplomat is to promote teqball in Croatia. Teqbal, a ball sport invented in Hungary, is played on a curved table, combining elements of football and table tennis.

Mateša accepted both proposals heartily and added that teqball could be presented to the public in Zagreb’s Cvjetni Trg square as soon as the COVID-19 pandemic is over.

The officials exchanged information about candidates for the Tokyo Olympic Games underscoring concern with the developments regarding the delivery of vaccines to the EU.

The ambassador  expressed his desire for Croatian-Hungarian cooperation in sports to continue, as evident in investments by entrepreneurs from Hungary in building a new football stadium in Osijek. He also commended Croatia’s recipe for the success of Croatia’s national football team.
