Swimming Season Kicks-Off In Dalmatia

It may still technically be winter and only the start of March on the calendar, but the swimming season for 2013 for many on Croatia’s Dalmatian coast kicked off on the weekend as the warm sun finally came out to play.

After recent snow and bitter cold temperatures, the brave in Dubrovnik decided to take a dip in the Adriatic sea as outside temperatures reached 16 degrees. There was little difference between the outside and sea temperature on Saturday, with sea temperatures recorded at 13 degrees celsius.

Not far up the coast in the city of Split, Bacvice beach had its usual sprinkling of “picigin” players, a traditional Split ball game played in shallow waters, whilst park benches in the Dalmatian town of Zadar were full with shirtless men catching some late winter sun.
