The Croatian comedy Svadba (The Wedding), directed by Igor Šeregij, has officially become the most-watched Croatian film in history, drawing an extraordinary 374,213 cinema-goers in just 12 days of release.
Produced by Eclectica and distributed by Duplicato Media (Blitz Group), the film’s unprecedented success has propelled it to the top of Croatia’s box office charts, surpassing a long-standing national record and placing it among the most successful theatrical releases ever screened in Croatian cinemas.
Following a record-breaking opening week, in which Svadba attracted 238,203 viewers, the film maintained its momentum during its second weekend, drawing an additional 136,010 viewers.
This surge brought total attendance to 374,213, officially crowning Svadba as the most-watched Croatian film of all time, the Croatian Audiovisual Center (HAVC) confirmed.
In doing so, Svadba has overtaken the previous record-holder, How the War Started on My Island (Kako je počeo rat na mom otoku, 1996), directed by Vinko Brešan, which recorded approximately 338,000 cinema admissions during its original theatrical run.
Beyond its national achievement, Svadba has also secured its place in Croatian cinema history as the second most-watched film ever shown in Croatian cinemas, regardless of origin.

The only film to have attracted more viewers remains James Cameron’s Titanic (1997), which drew 495,345 viewers in Croatia.
The scale of public interest has been reflected in the film’s wide theatrical release. Svadba was screened on 113 cinema screens during its opening weekend, with that number increasing to 142 screens in its second weekend due to overwhelming demand.
Svadba tells the story of a successful Croatian entrepreneur whose life unravels on his birthday when he discovers he is on the brink of financial collapse. At the same time, he learns that his daughter, who is studying in London, is pregnant with the son of a Serbian government minister.
The revelation sets off a chain of family, political and social complications, unfolding into a sharp and emotional narrative.
The film features an extensive ensemble cast led by Rene Bitorajac and Dragan Bjelogrlić, alongside Linda Begonja, Vesna Trivalić, Anđelka Stević Žugić, Roko Sikavica, Nika Grbelja and Marko Grabež.
The cast also includes acclaimed regional actors Seka Sablić, Srđan Žika Todorović, Snježana Sinovčić Šiškov and Dejan Aćimović, as well as Croatian favourites Goran Grgić, Janko Popović Volarić, Marko Miljković, Denis Murić and Nevena Nerandžić.
