World's Top 20 Pasta Dishes, Including a Croatia

World’s Top 20 Pasta Dishes, includes one from Croatia

Although there are many types of pasta dishes, everyone has their own favourite.

Popular site World of Statistics has revealed the most popular pasta dishes in the world, which includes one from Croatia.

The top spots are predictably dominated by the homeland of pasta – Italy.

In no.1 spot is Linguine pasta with seafood. In second place are Pappardelle with wild boar, followed by Carbonara in third, and Tagliatelle with Bolognese sauce in fourth.

The Greek pasta dish Giouvetsi broke the sequence of Italian dishes, coming in at no.7 on the list. The only other country to feature in the top 20 besides Italy and Greece was Croatia.

Croatia was no.20 on the list with šurlice with shrimp, a special delicacy from the island of Krk.

Šurlice, named for their resemblance to an elephant’s trunk, is the most famous variety of pasta on Krk.

Made with just a few simple ingredients using time-honoured techniques, they offer an authentic taste of Krk’s culinary heritage.

Similar to Istrian fuži but thinner and more elongated, šurlice are typically served with rich meat or seafood sauces. The tradition of preparing šurlice continues in Dobrinj, a charming town in Krk’s interior, where it remains a staple of local cuisine.

Šurlice are similar to fuži past from Istria, just more elongated and thinner. The tradition of preparing šurlice has also been preserved in Dobrinj, on the island of Krk.
