Summer vibes in Croatia

Croatia

After a relatively average and unsettled May, the real summer feeling is finally on its way to Croatia.

According to forecasts from the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ), a warm front is expected to settle over the country in the coming days, bringing sunshine and much warmer temperatures.

Thursday will still see a mix of sun and clouds with some instability, particularly in the interior. Showers and thunderstorms are possible in regions such as Karlovac, Gospić and Rijeka, where yellow weather alerts have been issued.

There may even be some hail in parts of central Croatia. Winds will vary across the country, with a strengthening bura along the coast later in the day.

Conditions will begin to improve from Friday onwards but the real summer vibes kick in over the weekend.

From Saturday through Sunday, Croatia will experience significantly warmer weather. Sunday could even see highs reach 32 °C in some parts, particularly inland and along the Dalmatian coast.

Coastal regions will enjoy mostly sunny conditions with a gentle north-westerly breeze turning south-westerly by Sunday.

Looking ahead to the start of June, early forecasts indicate continued warming, with daily highs regularly reaching the upper 20s and low 30s °C. UV levels will be high, so sun protection is advised.

What to Expect This Summer in Croatia

According to long-range forecasts from Severe Weather Europe and other meteorological centres, Croatia is heading into a hot and mostly dry summer.

While early June may still see some unsettled conditions in northern and central regions, the southern coast is expected to remain warmer and drier.

By July and August, high pressure over the region is likely to dominate, raising the potential for heatwaves, especially inland and along the Dalmatian coast.

Rainfall should stay below average overall, though occasional summer storms may still occur. Travellers and locals alike should prepare for a generally hot, sunny and dry summer across much of Croatia.
