The University of Split School of Medicine is inviting students from around the world to apply for its Medical Studies in English programme, an internationally recognised course leading to a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.

The integrated undergraduate and graduate programme runs for six years and is EU-accredited, enabling graduates to pursue medical careers across Europe and internationally. Applications are currently open for the 2026/2027 academic year, with detailed admission information available on the official application page.

Each year the programme enrols around 70 students, creating a favourable student-to-professor ratio and allowing teaching to take place in small groups.

This approach provides more direct interaction with professors and a more personalised learning experience.

International and diverse student body

The programme attracts a highly international cohort, with students coming from a wide range of countries.

In recent years many have arrived from Germany, Scandinavia, Canada and the United States, creating a diverse and multicultural academic environment.

To support international students, the faculty provides a strong support system, including:

• Orientation programmes for new arrivals

• Administrative and academic assistance

• Language support

• Active student organisations

• Mentoring opportunities throughout the programme

Opportunity for students with Croatian roots

The programme also holds special appeal for students with Croatian heritage living abroad. Studying in Split offers the opportunity to reconnect with family roots while completing a medical degree, while also providing the chance to learn or improve Croatian alongside medical studies.

Located on the Adriatic coast, Split offers students a unique study environment that combines academic rigour with Mediterranean lifestyle.

Known for its mild climate, outdoor lifestyle and renowned cuisine, the city has become an increasingly popular destination for international students. At the same time, it maintains strong academic traditions and modern medical training facilities.

The city is also well connected internationally, with nearby Split Airport providing regular flights to major European destinations, making travel within Europe convenient for students.

Admission requirements

Applicants must have completed secondary school education and final examinations, with a minimum of 12 years of prior education required for eligibility.

With global demand for English-language medical education continuing to grow, the programme in Split offers students a chance to earn a recognised MD degree while studying in one of the Mediterranean’s most attractive university cities.

With applications now open for the 2026/2027 academic year, prospective students can find full details on eligibility, deadlines and the application process on the official University of Split School of Medicine website: https://mefst.unist.hr/studies/medical-studies-in-english/call-for-applicants-and-application-procedure-for-admission-into-2026-2027-medical-studies-in-english/13242
