Stubičke Toplice, one of Croatia’s most established spa and rehabilitation destinations, is set to significantly expand its offer with the construction of a new four-star hotel as part of a major investment in health tourism on the continent.
The Special Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation Stubičke Toplice is developing the new facility, a project valued at more than €17 million, which will include modern accommodation, wellness facilities and an indoor swimming pool.
The construction site was recently visited by Croatia’s Minister of Tourism and Sport, Tonči Glavina, alongside Krapina-Zagorje County Prefect Željko Kolar.
The new hotel will feature 36 rooms and two suites, as well as a new kitchen, restaurant, and a comprehensive wellness and spa zone.
Once completed, it will significantly enhance accommodation and service capacity, strengthening Stubičke Toplice’s position as a leading health tourism destination in continental Croatia.
Minister Glavina highlighted the scale of current investment in the Croatian tourism sector, stressing the importance of inland and year-round tourism development.

“Croatia is currently investing around €350 million in tourism. In the area of five northern Croatian counties alone, we are co-financing 18 projects worth more than €130 million. This clearly shows the importance of investments aimed at transforming tourism and strengthening its sustainability throughout the entire year,” Glavina said.
Krapina-Zagorje County Prefect Željko Kolar confirmed that construction is progressing according to plan and that completion is expected as early as June this year.
“The new hotel will have four stars and will include 36 rooms, two suites, a new kitchen, restaurant, and wellness and spa facilities. This is a strong step forward for health tourism in Zagorje,” Kolar said.

The project is also expected to bring significant employment benefits. Hospital Director Zorica Capar confirmed that the institution has been successful in securing funding through various calls and programmes and that the expansion will create new jobs.
“The Special Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation Stubičke Toplice has been nurturing 250 years of uninterrupted health care tradition,” she said.
“It is of utmost importance to us to develop quality accommodation services and better conditions for patients. That is why we are proud to be building a new wellness center and indoor swimming pool that will now be available to users 365 days a year.”

“Without the support of the Krapina-Zagorje County, our founder, there would be no development project. Our employees are working with dedication to the reputation of Stubičke Toplice and I hope that this investment will help raise quality, and also improve the reputation of our county and the Republic of Croatia as a quality destination for health and health tourism. Through this project, we plan to employ around 50 additional staff members, including both medical and non-medical personnel,” Capar said.
With growing global interest in health, wellness and sustainable travel, investments such as this underline Croatia’s strategy to diversify tourism beyond the coast and peak summer season, positioning destinations like Stubičke Toplice as attractive year-round options for both domestic and international visitors.
