The City of Split has announced plans for a new public garage in the Lovrinac area, aiming to ease city centre congestion and promote eco-friendly transport options.
Mayor Ivica Puljak, together with architects from the firm 6AR, presented the conceptual design of the facility at a meeting in Sirobuja this week.
The new Park & Ride garage will be located next to the city cemetery, on its busy southern side, replacing the existing open-air parking lot.
Designed to blend into the current street layout, the garage will feature two underground and two above-ground levels, covering a total area of 33,720 square metres.
It will offer nearly 1,000 parking spaces, including:
• 875 car spaces
• 45 designated for taxis and car-sharing services
• 84 for bicycles and e-bikes
• 53 for motorcycles
• 6 dedicated bus bays
Mayor Puljak explained the vision behind the project:
“The idea is for visitors coming into Split to leave their cars here and continue their journey using more sustainable forms of transport – public buses, electric vehicles, or city bikes. This will help reduce traffic pressure on the wider city centre.”

The garage will also feature green energy solutions. Solar panels and wind turbines will be installed on the roof to support renewable energy use.
Additionally, the rooftop will include flower stalls and other amenities serving cemetery visitors, along with hospitality and service facilities.
Two pedestrian bridges will connect the garage directly to the cemetery, allowing for improved access and freeing up the current entrance, which is set for complete reconstruction.

The project will be funded through the European Investment Bank and EU funds. The design phase is expected to last six months, with construction estimated to take between 18 months and two years.

If everything proceeds on schedule, work could begin as early as next summer.
