Construction has officially begun on a key section of the future Split–Omiš fast road, marking an important step in one of the most significant transport infrastructure projects in central Dalmatia.
The start of works on Phase 1 of the DC8 TTTS–Dugi Rat project, which includes the TTTS interchange, was marked on site with representatives from national and local authorities outlining the next stages of the development.
The project is part of the long-planned Split–Omiš bypass, designed to improve traffic flow and ease congestion along one of the busiest coastal routes in Croatia.
The first phase of the project, valued at €16.18 million (excluding VAT), will be carried out by construction company Hering d.d. from Široki Brijeg, with Institut IGH responsible for professional supervision.
Works are expected to take 18 months.
The development will include the construction of a four-lane road section between Stobreč and the TTTS area, significantly improving connectivity and traffic capacity in the wider Split area.

Officials said the project will also relieve congestion at the heavily used Stobreč intersection, which frequently experiences traffic bottlenecks.
New TTTS interchange and overpass
The TTTS junction will form part of the planned Mravinci – Podstrana – Omiš fast road.
According to technical details presented by Hrvatske ceste engineer Ante Glibota, the new junction will include:
• A grade-separated roundabout
• Sections with two and four lanes
• A 232-metre overpass carrying traffic from Karepovac towards Podstrana
• A construction zone covering around 550 metres
The design aims to ensure smoother traffic flow and safer connections between the coastal road and inland routes.
Second phase worth nearly €150 million
At the same time, Hrvatske ceste has launched preliminary consultation for Phase 2 of the project.
This next stage will include the construction of nearly five kilometres of the future Split–Omiš fast road, stretching from the TTTS interchange to Stara Podstrana, including access roads.
The estimated value of the works is €149.8 million (excluding VAT), with a planned construction period of 48 months.
The second phase will also include significant structures such as bridges and tunnels, including a bridge over the Žrnovnica River.

Authorities expect all necessary permits to be obtained by the end of the year so construction can begin shortly afterwards.
€350 million investment in regional transport
Local and regional leaders attending the event highlighted the wider importance of the project.
Once completed, the investment in this corridor, including current and planned works, is expected to reach around €350 million, representing one of the largest road infrastructure investments in the Split-Dalmatia County.

The full project is intended to:
• Reduce congestion on the coastal road between Split and Omiš
• Improve traffic safety
• Increase road capacity during the busy tourist season
• Provide a long-term transport solution for the growing metropolitan area
When all phases are complete, the new fast road is expected to significantly ease traffic pressure along one of the most heavily used transport routes in southern Croatia.
