The renaissance of the Dalmatian City of Split as a major tourist player this season was enforced when it picked up a major award as the best destination on Croatia’s Adriatic coast at this years Croatian Tourism Days awards.
Now a leading German tour operator, who specialise in Croatia, have heaped praise on the ancient Roman city by comparing it to an interesting women.
“Split today really has become the Croatian Barcelona, it is only just a little less photogenic than Dubrovnik at first sight. But, Split is like an interesting women which you want to discover step by step, always surprised by new beauty. I want to congratulate the people of Split for bringing back the confidence and awareness that it can be the best,” said Germany’s ID Riva Tours director Selimir Ognjenovic.
Split had a bumper season, with the most amount of guests to the city under the Marjan hill coming from Germany, France, Poland, Italy and the UK. The biggest growth though came with the number of tourists from Japan – 27 percent, says Slobodna Dalmacija.
