Scene Of Gotovina Arrest In Tenerife Becomes Tourist Hit

Table 157 at the Hotel Bitacora Restaurant in Tenerife in the Canary islands may look like an ordinary table at a tourist resort, but the table has become somewhat of a tourist hit since 2005.

On 7 December 2005, Spanish agents burts into the hotel restaurant and arrested Croatian general Ante Gotovina, and hotel staff say since then it has become a tourist hit.

“Everyone wants to know where he (Gotovina) sat. They ask what he was eating and drinking and order the same wine. In the last 7 years interest in the general has been big. It is always Croatian guests,” the hotel told 24.sata.hr yesterday.

Gotovina told Vecernji list that whilst he was in jail he received hundreds of postcards from the Tenerife hotel.

Hotel staff said the recently acquitted general was an elegant man who was generous with leaving tips.
