Perković (24) has had a phenomenal last couple of years since winning gold at the London Olympics in 2012. In 2013 she claimed the World Championship in Moscow, whilst in 2014 she completed the triple of major championships winning the 2014 European Championship with a personal best of 71.08m in Zurich. Two weeks later she completed the 2014 Diamond League season with another win.
The IAAF’s 10-person shortlist of candidates for the award includes marathon world record holder Dennis Kimetto of Kenya, Kiwi shot putter Valerie Adams, and pole vault indoor record holder Renaud Lavillenie of France. The winners will be selected by the IAAF’s ruling council and named on 21 November at an annual awards gala in Monaco.
