Croatian shooter Josip Glasnović has won Croatia’s first medal at the Olympic Games in Rio on Monday afternoon…

The 33-year-old won the Gold medal in the Men’s Trap final beating Giovanni Pellielo from Italy in a shootout in the final after they both shot 13. Glasnović held his nerve in the shootout after Pellielo missed to give Croatia their first medal of the Olympic Games.

Glasnović cruised through to the final after nailing 15 out of 15 hits in the semi-final, whilst fellow Croatian shooter Giovanni Cernogoraz, who won gold in the same event at the London Olympics, could only manage a 9th place finish in qualifying.

Glasnović decided to compete in Rio without a coach and says it is the best way for him to concentrate and see his own mistakes.

“I am still in shock, I have tears in my eyes. It was the best that I have shot. I remained concentrated throughout and once I qualified for the final I was a bit more relaxed. We have two shooting golds in a row now,” said a happy Josip after receiving his medal.
