Rijeka beat Dinamo Zagreb to win the Croatian Cup

PULA, 22 May 2019 – Rijeka has won the Croatian Cup after defeating Dinamo Zagreb in the final on Wednesday at the Aldo Drosina stadium in Pula. 

Rijeka took the lead in the 13th minute against the league champions when Čolak headed home a Halilović cross. Dinamo Zagreb keeper Livaković made two good saves to deny Rijeka stretching the lead. 

They would go 2-0 up in the 39th minute when Halilović was first to react to a cross from Kvržić.

Dinamo reduced the lead in the 63rd minute when Oršić curled a shot past Sluga in the Rijeka goal from just inside the box after a scramble in the box. Dinamo could then have levelled the match in the 74th minute when they were awarded a penalty. Sluga however dove to his right to deny Olmo with a great save. 

Rijeka then made sure of the match in the 85th minute when Kvržić shrugged off his marker before drilling it into the top left corner to make it 3-1.

The score remained the same until the final whistle and the celebrations begun for Igor Bišćan’s side. 

This was Rijeka’s 5th Croatian Cup in their history, previously winning it in 2005, 2006, 2014 and 2017.
