From 1 January to 28 August 2016 there were 12.4 million tourist arrivals in Croatia, the most in the nation’s history…

In that same period there were 71 million overnight stays recorded, also a record. When broken down into regions, Istria welcomed the most tourists so far this year with 20 million overnight stays, followed by the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County (14 million), Split-Dalmatia (12.6 million), Zadar (9 million), Dubrovnik-Neretva (5.6 million) and Šibenik-Knin (4.9 million).

The Germans once again were Croatia’s largest group of tourists (13.2 million overnights), followed by tourists from Slovenia, Austria, Italy and Poland.

“The results since the start of the year, especially those over the summer months, have broken current records and that is something everyone in the tourism sector should be proud of,” said Tourism Minister Anton Kliman.

August has also been a record month with 3.8 million arrivals and 27 million overnight stays from 1-28 August. Signs for an excellent post-season are there which will further cement 2016 as a record year for tourism in Croatia’s history, Kliman added.
