Portuguese Football Federation President Visits Croatia

hnsPortuguese Football Federation (FPF) President Fernando Gomes has met with his Croatian counterpart Davor Šuker in Zagreb on Wednesday…

Gomes was visiting the Croatian Football Federation headquarters today and spoke with both Šuker and Executive President Damir Vrbanović.

“I have known Davor for a number of years, and Damir also from the UEFA commission. They are good friends, just as our two federations have been for years. We spoke about ideas in football, development on a continental level,” said Gomes after the meeting, adding the Portugal and Croatia have a lot in common.

“We are both not big countries, and still in financial crisis. But, despite that we manage to always compete at major tournaments, our youth sides also regularly compete on in the final stages of tournaments. We produce a lot of brilliant players, but we have to continue working on that because they leave our domestic league when they are young. The development of players and working with youth is where we can learn from one another,” said Gomes.

Šuker agreed with his counterpart and fellow UEFA executive committee candidate.

“Just as we value Portuguese football, it is very nice to see how much Croatian football is valued in Portugal. We spoke about possible cooperation between the two federations, and hope that we can work together on the UEFA executive committee. (photo Drago Sopta / HNS)
