Pope Francis Receives Champion Croatian Water Polo Club VK Jug

Representatives from Croatian water polo club VK Jug from Dubrovnik have met Pope Francis in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican on Wednesday.

VK Jug club President Lukša Jakobušić, Vice President Željan Konsuo, coach Vjekoslav Kobešćak and players Marko Macan, Loren Fatović, Luka Lončar and Xavi Garcia were joined by the Bishop of Dubrovnik Mato Uzinić and Don Robert Čibarić for their audience with the Pope.

VK Jug has enjoyed tremendous success, winning their fourth European Championships last year. They are 13-time Croatian champions also and Pope Francis spent some time talking with them.

He was interested to hear about the club’s successes and shared his apostolic blessings as the club presented the Pope with a statue of Dubrovnik’s patron saint St. Blaise in the colours of VKJug, a pair of VK Jug swimming trunks and a miniature water polo ball.
