Police Arrest 24-Year-Old Woman Accused of Starting Fires on Korčula

ssPolice have arrested a 24-year-old woman on the island of Korčula overnight in relation to a number of fires on the island this past week….

Police say that the woman is accused of starting a number of fires on the island from 21 to 23 July. She is also accused of setting a building alight on 21 July at 9:20am. She is also accused of setting alight dry grass on 22 July at 11am, which caused over 400 square-metres of damage. She is accused also of setting dry grass alight later in the evening of the 22nd of July, as well as on 24 July at 2:40am. All the fires she started were put out, Dubrovnik-Neretva police have said.

Over 900 hectares of pine forests has been destroyed on the island over the past 4 days, as well as extensive damage to property, livestock, olive groves, and vineyards.

The woman is currently in custody.
