PM Invites Pope Francis to Croatia After Audience at Vatican

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic has invited Pope Francis to visit Croatia during an audience on Saturday.

Plenkovic kicked off his visit to the Vatican with an audience with Pope Francis. The Croatian PM, who told reporters before the visit that it was ‘one of the most important events in his life’, extended an invitation to the Pope to make his first visit to Croatia.

“I expect messages of encouragement from (Pope Francis), I plan to invite him to visit Croatia, I expect us to discuss the finalization of the canonization of the Blessed Alojzije Stepinac and other issues that are important for closer relations between the Holy See and Croatia,” the PM told Hina.

Also during the visit to the Vatican, the Croatian PM will also meet the Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, visit St. Peter’s Basilica and meet with representatives of the Croat community in the Vatican.
